Thorne Trio

THE THORNE TRIO

OBOE, CLARINET, BASSOON

Available for recitals, education work/ seminars and background music for functions.

 

THE THORNE TRIO is an established wind group, comprising graduates of the Royal College of Music. In their time together they have had a varied and wide range of experiences.  In the 2001/02 season, The Thorne Trio was accepted onto The Blackheath Halls Young Artists Scheme, where they gave a series of recitals and education workshops. They are also, supported by the Yehudi Menuhin Scheme, Live Music Now! The Council for Music in Hospitals and Cavatina Chamber Music Trust and work regularly for Wigmore Hall Community and Education Department in giving demonstrations, workshops and concerts to people of all ages throughout the United Kingdom.  In 2003, The Thorne Trio won the Philharmonia Orchestra/Martin Music Trust Scholarship Fund Education and Outreach Award. They are still supported by the fund, and work regularly for the Philharmonia Orchestra. They were first prize winners of the Anglo-CzechSlovak Music Competition and as a result, travelled to Prague in November 2003 to give a recital in Martinu Hall at the Liechtenstein Palace.  Other engagements included recitals at the Beaumaris Music Festival, Ensemble in Residence for the Criccieth Music Festival and a recital at Leeds International Concert Series.  In 2004 the trio launched their website and recorded their first CD “3”.They also performed for Bryn Terfel at his Faenol festival, alongside Jamie Cullum and Jools Holland.  This year the Trio are celebrating their sixth anniversary, and commissioned an exciting new composition by Cecilia MCDowall, which was premiered at St Geroge’s Brandon Hill in Bristol in December 2005.  They hold the post of Junior Fellows of the Royal College of Music and look forward to recitals for music societies and festivals throughout England and Wales.  For more details about The Thorne Trio please see their website at www.thethornetrio.co.uk.
